2019 guber: Niger PDP stakeholders reject zoning

A group known as Concerned Youths Forum and some key elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state have rejected the zoning arrangement that allocates the governorship seat to Niger North Senatorial District, also known as Zone C.
In a statement issued yesterday in Minna, the stakeholders lambasted the state chairman of the party, Barrister Tanko Beji for insinuating that the governorship ticket of the party in the state has been zoned to Niger North.
The chairman of the group, Dr.
Mohammed Bello insisted that the statement credited to the party chairman, Barrister Beji in respect of zoning was his personal opinion which contradicts that of the national secretariat of the party.
He said Beji’s position was undemocratic and that it failed to give due consideration to the constitution adding that such move was not acceptable by the youths in the three geo political zones of the state.
Bello accused the state party chairman of using his position in favour of his preferred candidate in the person of the former deputy governor who is a serving ambassador to South Africa, Hon.
Ahmed Musa Ibeto, He said: “It is Beji’s antics to further convince Ahmed Musa Ibeto who dumped the party to join APC in 2015 to come and contest for the governorship come 2019.” He argued that zoning arrangement as planned by the party chairman will deliberately frustrate popular candidate to emerge and install unpopular candidate to the detriment of PDP at the 2019 general election.
