Former governor of Kano state and the lawmaker representing Kano Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly , Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has appointed a member, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Buba Galadima, as the director- general of his presidential campaign team ahead of the 2019 general elections, Blueprint can authoritatively report.

Galadima was the National Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, then led by Muhammadu Buhari and one of the amalgams that formed the APC ahead of the 2015 general elections. Apart from Galadima, four serving governors and some National Assembly members, whose identities have not been made known within and outside the ruling APC, have also indicated interest to back the presidential ambition of the former governor.

A reliable source, who is a top member of the APC, revealed to our correspondent yesterday in Abuja that Kwankwaso, who celebrated his 61st birthday anniversary in Lagos at the weekend, unveiled Galadima as his campaign DG to some of his close allies after the birthday bash.

Galadima, a one-time close ally of President Buhari, right from their days in the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), has of late being critical of the APC-led administration and his party with the famous quote, “under Buhari people are stealing right, left and centre.” Although our source insists Galadima has accepted the off er, the former CPC scribe however said he’s not aware, adding that in politics , anything can happen. Continuing, the top party chieftain who is also a staunch supporter of Kwankwaso’s presidential bid , further said their principal “will not rely on APC ticket” to run for the nation’s presidency in 2019. According to the source, “Kwankwaso has set up structures across all the regions and states of the federation through his numerous support groups, and that the support groups have all come together to have a central body coordinating their interest.

“Engr. Galadima is committed to Kwankwaso’s presidential ambition. I must tell you that Kwankwaso’s ambition is unstoppable this time around whether with APC or out the party. “The encouragement we receive daily is enormous with diff erent groups and individuals coming to express their support. Some have even sought to meet with our leader for more than three months now, but they have not because so many people are coming,” the source said.

I’m not aware but… – Galadima When contacted on phone, Engr. Galadima said he was not aware of his appointment, but swiftly added that “in politics you can’t rule out anything.” “No, Kwankwaso has not appointed director general for anything. What he is doing now is about his Kwankwassiya movement and that is not political.

So, I don’t think he did, if he has done that I will know. But in politics, you can’t rule out anything, we are politicians. “What Kwankwaso is doing now is about his Kwankwassiya nationwide because nobody knows what will be the platform for anybody.” When probed further to know whether Senator Kwankwaso will contest presidential ticket on the platform of APC, Galadima said: “Well, we wouldn’t know for now, but when the time comes he (Kwankwaso) will take his decision, but I’m sure that for now, he is only bothered about his movement which is non partisan, because people from all walks of life, from diff erent political parties are members of the movement which is across the country. And I want to tell you that the movement is now the third force in the country.”

APC congratulates Kwankwaso at 61 Meanwhile, the national leadership of APC has congratulated Kwankwaso as he marked his 61st birthday. In a statement signed at the weekend by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, it described Kwankwaso as a “staunch party man, who has contributed immensely to the growth and success of the APC.” “As one of the key leaders of the New PDP who joined our party before the last general elections, Kwankwaso remains one of the strong pillars of the party. “We also recall that as governor of Kano state, Kwankwaso was a trailblazer, whose thoughtful leadership and vision led to the transformation of the state, thereby laying a solid foundation on which the current governor is building,” the statement read in part.
