2019: Middle Belt female aspirants defect to SDP

More than a hundred female aspirants from the Middle Belt zone aspiring for various elective offices in the forthcoming 2019 general elections have defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
A statement yesterday by the National Publicity Secretary, Alfa Mohammed, quoted the president of the group, Mrs. Larai Ishaya, as saying that “the decision to defect in the SDP was informed by the promise of a new political order, where the rule of law, level playing ground and social justice are the guiding principles’’.
Mrs. Ishaya said that their decision to join the SDP was unanimously taken by the aspirants drawn from the entire middle belt states, when they met recently in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). She explained further that the decision was borne out of ‘’the promise of a new political order, where the rule of law, level playing ground and social justice are the guiding principles, as well as the integrity of the team of leaders directing the party; led by Chief Olu Falae, former Minister of Finance and Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria’’. Professor Jerry Gana, who received the defectors on behalf of the national chairman, applauded ‘’the wise decision’’ of the group to join the popular ‘moving train’. He explained to the defectors that he himself used to be a key stakeholder in the PDP but on realisation that the PDP had wasted it’s goodwill amongst Nigerians due to poor leadership, impunity and frequent rejection of wise counsel and the admonition of well meaning Nigerians, he had to exit the party to join SDP.
According to Prof Jerry, ‘’it makes no sense for any wise and patriotic Nigerian politician to remain in the PDP’’. Speaking about the ruling All Peoples Congress, professor Gana reiterated that three years running, the party has only succeeded in taking Nigerians on ‘’a one chance ride’’, as all the lofty promises made to the Nigerian populace, and for which they were elected have not been fulfilled. He summed up his comment by reminding the ladies of the wise saying which states that ‘’ you can only fool the people ones and not all the time’’.
He, therefore, enjoined women to go out and tell other Nigerian women that opportunities abound in SDP.
