2019: Nigeria needs prayer – Gowon

Former Nigerian Head of State and the Chairman Nigeria prays, General Yakubu Gowon rtd, has re-echoed the importance of prayer in the country

Gowon made the assertion on Saturday when he paid a courtesy call on Yobe state Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, at government house, Damaturu as part of his tour to flag-off North-east zonal rally of the Nigeria Prays.

Tracing the history of the Nigeria prays, General Gowon, said the decision to set-up the organization became necessary when Nigeria started experiencing challenges of kidnapping, killings, conflicts, harassment, and regional differences which had bad image to the country.

Gowon, said he was in the state “to pray for the government and people of Yobe and as well as hitch free election despite the individual differences in the political parties.”

In his remarks, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam represented by his deputy, Abubakar D. Aliyu thanked the former Head of State for finding time to visit the state.

He said prayer wasn’t something that could be taken for granted as it draws  individuals closer to God.

Gaidam called on General Gowon, to apart from prayer, preach attitudinal change among the elder statesmen in the country for a better Nigeria

He was accompanied to the visit by the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Yobe state chapter, Reverend Father Yakubu Philibus  Inda and other executive members of the association.
