2019: Niger’ll work again – Lawmaker

A lawmaker representing Niger North during the 7th Assembly, Senator Ibrahim Musa, has pledged to bring back what he described as “the lost glory of the North Central state” when voted into power during the 2019 governorship contest.
The governorship hopeful, who lost to the incumbent at the APC primaries in 2015, said he is rejuvenated and turbo-charged to take over the mantle of leadership from Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, whose administration he said has failed to address the key needs and challenges of the electorate in the state.
He accused the governor of dragging the ‘power state’ down the pecking order in the APC-led administration, saying electricity, roads and rural infrastructure are all lacking in the state, after nearly three years on the saddle. Sen. Musa, who chairs the Board of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) said, although key stakeholders in the Niger project would queue behind him in his vision to revive the state, he isrelying on God and not Generals Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar in the push to unseat Sani Bello in 2019 contest. “I am in the race because a lot of things are not working in Niger state.
The governor isn’t performing to the expectation of the people who elected him. Nothing is happening in all the major towns in the state; no pipe borne water, no electricity and the roads are a nightmare,” he said. Musa believes that power comes from God, assuring: “If it pleases Allah that I emerge the chief executive in 2019, I will turn around the economy of Niger state.
We have arable land for agriculture where we can encourage our farmers, especially rice farmers on the Anchor Borrowers Scheme. We will make fertiliser and chemicals available. In fact ours will be the real food basket of the nation.
