2019: NOA begins voter education campaign in Yobe

National Orientation Agency NOA has called on electorates in Yobe to come out in en-mass to elect leaders with good intentions, programmes,

patriotism, zeal and spirit of service to humanity at the 2019 general elections.

These were the words of the Director-General NOA, Garba Abari while declaring open a one day Zonal Voter Education campaign at the IBB secretariat in Damaturu on Thursday.

Abari, who was represented by Nom Simeon, said the voter education was meant to create robust interaction between the electorates in the forth coming general elections.

“In line with our mandate in the National Orientation Agency consciousness to the civic responsibility, it has become necessary to embark on a nationwide political education to sensitize the people”.

“Not only in the why, when, how and other details that will propel the success of the general elections”, he said.

He thanked the electorates for the good exhibition of maturity throughout the processes and implores them to continue to sustain the tempo.

Earlier in his remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Ahmad Makama, represented by the Admin Secretary, Barr. Waziri A. Zanna, said INEC in Yobe had received a total of  338,933 PVCs from their National headquarters and only 199,551 PVCs were collected by the owners, leaving 139,377 unclaimed apart from the 172,387 in 2015.

While calling on voters to come for the collection of their PVCs, he cautioned the public on the cases of vote buying noting that it  is liable to conviction  according to section 139 (a) of the 2010 Electoral Act.

In his goodwill message, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state, Comrade Yusuf Isah promised to partner with the NOA in carrying out sensitization for hitch-free elections.The programme was attended by the State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Yobe State Police Commissioner among other dignitaries.
