The director-in-charge of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrimage Commission (NCPC), Mrs. Esther Kwaghe, has charged the security committee for this year’s Christian pilgrimage exercise to ensure zero abscondment.
She gave the charge recently in Abuja while inaugurating members of the security committee for the exercise to Israel and Rome.
Mrs. Kwaghe congratulated the committee members for their selection to participate in the pilgrimage, saying, “God has singled you out for service to serve Nigeria and humanity and as such put in your best and serve well.”
She asked the committee to “work as a team and identify pilgrims who have the potential to abscond,” stressing that “abscondment has been a very big challenge to Christian pilgrimage and we must do everything possible to curb it.”
According to her, “Nigeria is blessed with so many resources that no citizen should aspire to live in another man’s land” and urged Nigerians to “look inward and maximise all the resources in this nation for personal and national development.”
“You should diligently carry out your duties and accord pilgrims the respect they deserve. You should do everything humanly possible to achieve the terms of reference set for you and help the commission achieve a successful pilgrimage exercise,” she said.
Responding, the coordinator of the committee, Mr. John Alifa, thanked the commission for giving them the opportunity to serve and gave the assurance that the committee would do everything possible to achieve a zero abscondment in this year’s pilgrimage.
Blueprint Weekend reports that members of the security sub-committee were drawn from the Military, Police, Navy, Air Force, DSS, FAAN, Immigration Service, NSCDC, and FRSC.
