2019 polls must be game-changer, says Gambari

Former United Nations Under-Secretary, Prof.
Ibrahim Agboola Gambari , has urged Nigerians to insist on putting an end to impunity and thuggery during the 2019 general elections.
He said the election must be game-changer-in nation’s democratic journey.
The former Nigeria’s permanent representative in the United states, spoke at the weekend during the 11th convocation ceremony of the Kwara state university, (KWASU) malete where he is currently serving as chancellor.
He said the federal government on its part must also adequately fund the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free and fair elections.
Gambari, while charging the new graduates of the university, admonished them never to allow themselves to be used as thugs or for manipulation during elections.
“As the 2019 elections draw near, never allow yourselves to be used by anybody either as thugs or for manipulation during elections.
Rather,get interested in who governs you and how the leaders are selected.
“The government on their part must empower the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a free and fair election in 2019 and beyond,” he said.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, represented by the Head of Service, Mrs.
Susan Modupe Oluwole, said his administration had embarked on laudable infrastructural projects through remodeled Kwara State Internal Revenue Service which shore up the state revenue base.
He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to continue to invest in education sector, adding that the establishment of the University in Malete 2009 had transformed the rural community and thus reduced rural-urban drift.
