2019: RATAWU mulls workshop to curb hate speech

The National Union of Radio, Television and Theatre Art Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) said it is organizing a workshop for members to curb hate and dangerous speeches amongst broadcasters in Nigeria.
National president of the union, Comrade Kabir Garba Tsanni disclosed this in Ilorin while speaking with our correspondent at the just concluded 11th edition of RATTAFEST 2018 , national festival of RATAWU which held in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
The theme of the weeklong festival which was attended by participants across the country is ‘‘Media and Cultural Sectors as Tool for National Transformation, Cohesion and Good Governance’’.
Tsanni said the union was mindful of the danger such unguided speeches could cause to the peace and tranquillity of the nation if allowed to go on air particularly during the 2019 general election.
‘‘The Union intends to carryout zonal workshops, aimed at sensitizing stakeholders in the broadcast and culture industries against hate and dangerous speeches as a way of contributing to fair, free and peaceful conduct of election in 2019,’’he said .
He praised the state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed for ‘‘the repositioning of Kwara state Television and Radio Kwara from analogue to Digital, with the state of arts equipment and payment of weigh in allowance to members.
The senate president, Dr .Bukola Saraki ,represented by the director media of his mandate constituency office, Alhaji Abdullahi Lakadir acknowledged the contribution of the union toward the economic development of the nation assuring that Nigerians will enjoin new lease of life if the eante president is elected president of the country in 2019
