2020 Olympics:We ‘ll show champion’s stuff in Tokyo – Kalu

Point guard of the Nigeria female basketball team, D’ Tigress who just qualified for the Olympic Games, Ezinne Kalu has said the team is going to Japan to show  champion’s stuff and not to stay in the shadow of any country.

Kalu who is still savouring the team’s recent qualification ticket grabbed in Belgrade, Serbia said D’ Tigress will personally prepare for the task ahead of them, as they want to show the real excellence of Nigeria’s basketball talent.

“We are already thinking of the impact we ‘ll make at the Land of Rising Sun.

“We are going to the Olympics to represent a nation of people who have always been forced to keep quiet, stay in the shadows and not show the excellence and talents we possess.

So many Africans are breaking barriers throughout all sports. With the women and men basketball teams both qualifying, this gives us an opportunity to really showcase what Nigeria has to offer.”

She pointed out that they are further boosted with the fact that, apart from clinching the highly coveted Olympics ticket during the recent qualifying tournament in Belgrade, Serbia, they played gallantly in their defeats by the hosts, Serbia and world champions, USA, who she recounted were both rattled by her squad.

“When we found out that we qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games we were super excited and overwhelmed with emotions.

This was something that we had worked so hard for and everything was finally falling into place. This is extremely huge! Not just for Nigerian basketball and we the players, but for Africa as a whole, we players pushed themselves to a whole new level to qualify and it will be even better when we get to Tokyo,” Kalu declared.
