2021 AFCON Qualifier: Super Eagles confront Benin Republic at Ogbemudia stadium

The Super Eagles will begin their quest for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Republic of Benin on November 11  inside the refurbished Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.

The Super Eagles has been playing without a “home’ for sometimes now due to the deplorable state of the Moshood Abiola stadium ,Abuja with the Eagles playing in such cities as Kaduna, Kano, Calabar, Uyo and lately Asaba.

Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, had hosted Super Eagles matches in recent time but concerns over the state of the Asaba pitch has forced Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, into serious search for an alternative venue.

There are also suggestions the Stephen  Keshi Stadium could undergo rehabilitation ahead the FIFA Women’s U20 World Cup which Nigeria is bidding to host.

Recently the Edo state government have refurbished the Sam Ogbemudia stadium ahead of the Edo 2020 and the hosting of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and Stephen Keshi Stadium are amongst six stadia Nigeria Football Federation is proposing as venues for the championship.

All the facilities have been inspected by a team of FIFA Inspectors except the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

After the Squirrels clash, Eagles next AFCON qualifier will be away to Lesotho in Maseru on November 19.
