2021: Nasarawa earmarks N35bn for education


The Nasarawa state government Thursday said it has earmarked N35. 4billion for education sector representing 30 percent of the 2021 budget.

The state commissioner of finance, budget and planning Haruna Adamu Ogbole stated this while given the breakdown of this year’s budget in his office in Lafia.

He said the anticipated budget of the state would be funded from statutory revenue allocation, value added tax, exchange grant and special allocation of the state.

He said other revenue sources that would fund the budget include Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), aid and grants as well as deficit financing.
Ogbole said the recurrent expenditure is to gulp over N53,874,156,817.00 billion representing 46.55 percent of the budget earmarked for non- debt recurrent expenditure which consist of both personnel and overhead cost.

He added that N54, 830,925,495.00 billion was set aside for the capital expenditure representing 47.38 percent of the total budget, while consolidated revenue take N7,017,732,031.00 billion being revenue fund charges for debt servicing, pension and gratuity which represents 6.21percent of the total budget.
The commissioner explained further that the administrative sector received N18, 730,510,772 billion, economic sector N34, 904,083,507 billion, Law and justice N3, 805,243,750 billion, social sector take N59,363,276,885 billion only.
He however, highlight some of the major capital projects that the administration of governor Abdullahi Sule intends to focus on to include the completion of bus terminal in Karu, construction of mini bus terminal in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital, construction of Mararaba-Udege road, as well as the construction of Lafia airport.
Others are dualisation of Shendam -Akurba road, construction of the 65 km Kwandare -Keffi road, construction of Sisimbaki- Far in Ruwa road as well as construction of the proposed state secretariat complex among others.
