2022 World Cup final: 200, 000 fans sign petition for replay

About 200,000 French Fans have signed a petition for the FIFA World Cup final to be replayed.

The Argentinean players dominated the French team in the first half, scoring two goals and thought they had won the game before Mbappe scored a brace in the last 12 minutes to send the game to extra time.

Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot and Di Maria made it 2-0 through a sublime Argentinean counter attack.

The French team were slack in the first half, but the introduction of Kolo Muani and Marcus Thuram in the first half made an impact in the game as Les Blues came from a goal down to force a 3-3 draw that was decided on penalties.

However, the French Fans in their petition called for the final to be replayed stating that they they lost unjustly and the foul against Di Maria that led to the penalty should not have been awarded.

The French supporters are calling for a replay, but the question is should FIFA grant them their request?

The petition further stated that Mbappe was fouled in the build up to Di Maria’s goal and that there was no action taken on that account.

Despite the fact that the Referee of the final was applauded for his display in the game, some fans were not satisfied at the outcome. In a recent interview, Agahowa former Super Eagles player, said that Argentina were already given the game as the penalty in the first half of the game against France was not to be awarded a penalty.

Petitions to FIFA are not new, as there have been multiple of them sent to the Apex footballing body. The question is that will FIFA rescind their decision and allow the replay of the FIFA World Cup Final in Qatar?

It is definitely a hard call and it might not work out. But with a petition already above the 200,000 mark, that petition is worth looking into.
