2023 census: NPC to display compendium, engage 1.5m ad-hoc staff

The federal commissioner representing Cross River state on the National Population Commission (NPC) board, Navy Captain Charles Ogwa (rtd), has said the compendium of localities in all the 18 local government areas of the state would be presented to critical stakeholders and displayed publicly in an event scheduled for Thursday, November 3, 2023 in Calabar.

Speaking at a press briefing Wednesday, the NPC commissioner said: “We are displaying and presenting to major stakeholders, traditional rulers and local government officials compendium of localities in all the 18 local government areas of Cross River state.

“This is so that stakeholders would check any case of omissions, incorrect spellings of names of their locality amongst other issues. It is only when the stakeholders are satisfied that the compendium will be officially accepted and posted to the national data base for next year’s housing and population census.

“It will be displayed local government by local government, locality by locality, and I believe that there was no locality that was not captured during the area demarcation exercise. This is to ensure transparency and avoid any form of litigation,” he stated.

The commissioner called on persons between ages of 25 to 50 years to apply as ad hoc staff, adding that the commission would engage at least 1.5 million ad hoc staff during next year’s population and housing census.
