2023: Court nullifies Zamfara PDP governorship primary poll, orders fresh primaries

The Federal High Court Gusau has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election for next year’s general elections.

The presiding judge, Justice Aminu Baffa, delivered the judgement Friday during the ruling on the case.

He held that, “Based on the record judgement with 109 pages, the court having been satisfied with the case filed before it by Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau against the PDP, Adamu Maina Waziri, Col. Bala Mande, Dauda Lawal Dare and INEC over irregularities during the last concluded PDP governorship primary election in Zamfara state, the court has jurisdiction over the case, and hereby rules in favour of the plaintiffs.”

The court consequently ordered fresh PDP governorship primaries.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the ruling, the counsel to all the plaintiffs, Barrister Ibrahim Ali, expressed satisfaction that an order was given by the Federal High Court to re-conduct the PDP governorship primary election ahead of the 2023 general election in line with the constitution of PDP and its guidelines.

Barrister Ali also expressed satisfaction with the way the court discharged its responsibility without fear or favour.

Also reacting, the state PDP legal adviser, Barrister Bashir Abubakar Masama, stated that they “will soon look at the judgement and appeal for justice to prevail.”
