2023 election: Youth advised to be agent of positive change

Chairman Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in the FCT, Comrade Shanabo Abubakar, has advised the Nigerian youth to shun malpractices during the forthcoming general election, urging them to be agent of positive change for democracy to strive in the country. 

He also urged them to ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) so that they would exercise their franchise during the 2023 election.

Comrade Shanabo who made the assertion Wednesday during the 20th anniversary of ETSU of Paikon-Kore, HRH Alhaji Yusuf Barwa, in Abuja FCT, also appealed to the traditional institution to educate their youth during the forthcoming general election.

The MHWUN chairman who was also coronated as the ‘Tafida’ of Paikon-Kore noted that there has been peaceful coexistence between the community and other ethics groups for a very long time, hence there was need for  communities to emulate this gesture.

He described HRH Alhaji Yusuf Barwa as one of the successful Etsu to be an astute, egalitarian, one of the finest and exemplary leader in the community.

“As a peace loving community, that is is the reason I’m calling on youth to ensure they collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) and vote credible leaders for the development of the country. 

“The youths should abide by the electoral laws of INEC, during and after the 2023 general elections come Feb. 12. 2023.

“They should shun violence and remain resolute in pursuing their mission and vision in the elections, which is all about interest. 

“I urge our youths to remain law abiding citizens for a peaceful and credible elections, while I plead with INEC and security agents to do the needful,” he said.

He also said that the attainment of a good election is depending on full cooperation and support of the youths to avoid any form of electoral violence during and after elections.

He said the importance of the PVCs is the only tool the electorate could use to choose leaders of their choice.

He admonished the youths not to allow the current situation in the country to discourage them from coming out to vote during general elections, adding that voter apathy was a threat to good governance.

He called for inclusive representation of the youth in governance for the progress and development of Nigeria.
