2023: IPAC condemns attack on Atiku, INEC office in Borno, Ogun

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, Northern Forum, has condemned in strong terms, the attack on Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential campaign team in Maiduguri.

It also condemned the attack on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), office in Ogun State.

The Council made known its condemnation, Friday, in a press release issued, by its Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Dogara, who is also the IPAC Chairman, Plateau State chapter.

“The Northern Forum, Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), received with dismay the recent attack on the campaign team of the, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Presidential candidate, while on rally in Maiduguri the Borno State, capital, two days ago,” it said.

The Forum stressed that it found the news highly disturbing, at a time when electioneering is about gaining momentum, with high hope of having a matured, peaceful and seamless processes that would lead Nigerians to credible polls.

“We, condemn and abhor in strong terms the act in all ramifications.

“It is disturbing, more so that the attack was metted out in the All Progressives Congress, (APC), control state, with gravious accusations, against the party, being behind it.

“Although, the Northern IPAC, has no facts to proof the allegations, but we deemed it wise to canvass that, the APC should henceforth, take preventive measures at ensuring that such uncivilised happenings does not reoccur in areas or States under its control,” it said.

According to the Forum, it has become necessary, to call on PDP control states, and all other oppositions, whose political parties are or is in control, should further ensure that candidates and other parties’ properties are accorded safe leveling space to operates.

It also expressed sadness over the attack and burning of INEC office in Ogun State.

“Similarly, the Northern IPAC, is saddened by the news of attacking and burning of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), office in Ogun State.

“The unfortunate happening is highly condemnable and totally unacceptable.

“We, see such attacks on INEC office or its staff as unpatriotic acts, and outright sabotage on our growing electoral system which the umpire technologicqlly, improving,” it said. 

The forum called on the security agencies, IPAC members, and all critical stakeholders to rise on board and put to an end such dastardly acts.
