2023: Kano will work for all under me as governor  – Gawuna

The gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano state, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has promised to make the state work for all if given opportunity to be the next governor.

He gave the assurance Monday evening in Abuja at a town hall meeting with Kano indigines and stakeholders in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Gawuna, who is the current deputy governor governor Abdullahi Ganduje, assured the people of Kanl that his immediate and future task is to make the state work for everyone.

This, he said, is a task that he has committed himself to attain in the next four years by focusing on the economy, security, infrastructure, healthcare, social welfare and good governance.

Unveiling the 21-page manifesto, Gawuna who commended the administration of Umar Ganduje’s efforts at establishing effective security infrastructure which made the state one of the safest in the country, promised to build on the structure by providing support for security agencies in the state.

According to the APC candidate, “we will establish a Security Trust Fund that will ensure tbe participation of the private sector for a robust policing of the state. The fund will provide modernsevirity gadgets to be located in black doors areas of metropolitan Kano.

“We shall be committed to the protection of tbe rights of every citizen and enforcement of all laws that allow peaceful co-existence of all persons in the state.”

On education, the APC governorship flag bearer, said his administration ei work out comprehensive and integrated basic education reform programmes to deepen the process, structures and mechanisms of improving accountability in teaching abd learning across both public and schools in the state.

He further said that payment of bursary to students in higher institutions will be given priority, while his administration would reposition the two state-owned universities – Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil and Yusuf Maitama University and other higher institutions in the state as centres of global academic excellence.

Priority attention, Gawuns said will be accorded, to health, water supply, housing, agriculture, environment, women, youth and sports when elected next year.

Describing the candidate as the right candidate for the state, Professor Munzali Jibrin said tbe humility of tbe governorship candidate towers him above all other candidates.

He appealed to the people of the State to vote massively for the APC candidate, predicting that “there is great hope for Kano State under Gawuna leadership and I pray Allah (SWT) will grant our prayer and give us our desire, which is Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna as the next governor of Kano state.”

The town hall meeting had in attendance the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, former state governor, Senator Kabiru Gaya, former and serving members of the federal and state executive councils, party chieftains among other indigenes of Kano state resident in Abuja.

Gawuna who served as the chairman of the Nasarawa Local Government Council when former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau held sway in the state faulted the notions held in certain quarters that he prevailed on Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to anoint him as the governorship candidate of the APC in Kano state.

He noted: “This kind of engagement is what would really bring out the best of our manifestos. As a Governor you need the experience which I already have. It is not about writing beautiful manifesto. You can hire consultants that would give you the best of manifestos. But if you don’t have the experience, how do you start implementing it?

“What has helped me till date is the sincerity of purpose and the confidence people have for me. Insha Allah I would never do anything to disappoint the people of Kano state. Allah knows my mind. I don’t have to lie, make fight fake promises to acquire power. If you do that, it would be an exercise in futility.

“Right from when I was local government chairman till date, I have never lobbied for any job or any position. Allah did it for me. I have no reason to dissapiont Allah. There was never a time I told the governor that I will succeed him.

“He never told me he would hand over to me either. Some people were even saying they wanted to form structures for me. One of our politicians even told me he would like to be my coordinator. But I did not give them the go-ahead. When the time came that was what happened.

” Me and the governor never sat down where he told me with me that you have offended me but I will give you the ticket so that i have to make up for my wrong doings. The governor only said you would be able to handle this responsibility because I have seen your quality as my wonderful Deputy.

” He said the time has come and I am going to support you because you have been loyal to me. You have the capacity. Whatever he told alone, he said it to our people in the open.  That was how I came. The goodwill I have received since then have been tremendous. We have to come together. We would not deceive and betray the people of Kano state.”
