2023: LP Campaign DG in Abia accuses PDP of billboard destruction

The governorship campaign council of Labour Party (LP) in Abia state has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government in the state of wanton destruction of the party’s billboards.

He warned the government of the state on the dire consequences of setting the state on fire by not being tolerant of opposition parties.

Addressing journalists in the state, the Director General of Dr Alex Campaign Council, Hon Iheanacho Obioma made the observation, while addressing journalists in Umuahia.

The Campaign DG regretted and queried the rationale behind destruction of the billboards of the LP governorship candidate and called on the ruling party in the state to toe the line of peace and allow other political parties assess to the political field.

While arguing that PDP does not own Abia state, he said having paid the mandatory fee of N10 million to Abia State Government to enable them paste the campaign posters and including N4million to vendors who mounted the billboards, the government had no right to vandalize the billboards.

Hon Obioma warned the PDP-led government not to do anything that would put Abia on fire given the relative peace the state has enjoyed.

He said there was no amount of intimidation that could stop the Labour movement because Dr Alex Otti is coming to change the narrative in the state come 2023.

He however, said the acts of damaging the campaign billboards that belonged to their candidates “is a provocative act of lawlessness and desperation of PDP”.

He alleged that the newly installed billboard around Umuikaa Junction was removed by Abia state government through the General Manager of Abia State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ABSAA), Mr Anthony Otuonye on the grounds that the PDP had no presence there.

He noted that Mr Otuonye had threatened that that he would not allow an opposition party to mount a billboard around that vicinity.
