2023: Neutrality, non-partisanship, my cardinal objective – Kano REC

The new Kano state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Zango A. Abdu, has expressed the determination of the commission in state to continue to espouse the principle of neutrality, transparency and non-partisanship in the discharge of its duties.

Addressing a stakeholders forum at the commission’s headquarters in Kano Thursday, Abdu stated that  the forum is one of the major platforms INEC uses to update stakeholders on the preparations towards 2023 general elections while considering the key role stakeholders were expected to play in the electoral process.

According to him, the commission is at the most critical stage in the implementation of the activities in the time line of schedule and activities for the 2023 general elections affirming that with the support of stakeholders the Commission has successfully implemented some key activities for the general elections.

He however stated that the critical foundation of credible election is the voters register recalling that the commission has conducted continuous voter registration which started on 28th June 2021 and lasted thirteen months until the suspension on 31st July, 2022.

He said, “it is pertinent  to note that the commission is mandated by the law to monitor the activities and track the campaign finances  of all political parties as provided  by the law I urge you to critically study and pay attention to the provisions of  the constitution, the electoral act, the police act and the public order act.”
