2023: Plot to sack INEC Chairman meant to thwart Commission’s efforts – Ohanaeze Youths

The plot to sack the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, is meant to thwart the efforts the commission put in place to ensure the success of 2023 general elections.

The Ohanaeze Youths Movement, in a statement by its Secretary General, Nwada Ike Chiamaka, stated this on Tuesday in Abuja.

The group said: “We know for a fact that all these devilish moves are meant to thwart the efforts the commission, under the leadership of its current Chairman, has put in place to ensure the success of the 2023 general elections.”

The group, which also linked the Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma to the move to sack the INEC Chairman and also to stop the use of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), urged the federal government to call those behind the move to order before they truncate the nation’s democracy.

Cautioning those behind the move, the Ohanaeze Youths Movement said they are not surprise because information available to them shown that there are clandestine moves to sack the INEC chairman and stop the use of BVAS.

“We are not too surprised because there was a recent statement credited to a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo loyal to  Uzodinma calling for the resignation of the INEC chairman.

“We are calling on all lovers of democracy to rise up against this move and ensure that these people do not truncate this hard-earned democracy.y

“We also call on Prof Yakubu to ignore all these moves and concentrate on the onerous task of delivering credible elections in 2023,” the group said.
