2023 polls: Only a courageous leader can halt Nigeria’s drift into disintegration – YCE

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) on Tuesday said Nigeria needed only an experienced, well tested, courageous and generally acceptable Nigerian like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to halt its seeming drift into disintegration.

YCE in a statement by its Secretary General, Chief Oladipo Oyewole, also warned that “Yoruba, as a major stakeholder in the Nigeria’s enterprise, should not be pushed aside in the politics of the nation”

The Yoruba Council of Elders said enough of foisting unprepared, weak and incompetent leaders on hapless Nigerians.

According to YCE, Tinubu stood as the most suitable to tackle the country’s present situation, adding  “his track record as a former governor of Lagos state, his detribalised disposition, his resourceful capacity to manage well and his love for humanity stood him in good stead to lift Nigeria from the precipice in which it has been dangling.

“In the opinion of the elders, only an experienced, well tested, courageous and generally acceptable Nigeria citizen can halt the seeming drift into disintegration which the country has been drifting for the past years”, it said.

YCE further said, “the Yoruba, as  a major stakeholder in the Nigeria enterprise, should not be pushed aside in the politics of the nation, The phenomenon of foisting unprepared, weak and incompetent leaders on hapless Nigerians through the constant machinations of inveterate yoruba ill wishers will not be tolerated ever again”.

“The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) declares its full support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s quest to become the next president of the Federal republic of Nigeria, his track record as a former Governor of Lagos state, his detribalized disposition, his resourceful capacity to manage well and his love for humanity stand him in good stead to lift our country Nigeria  from the precipice in which it has been dangling” .

On the present situation in the country, YCE described the reluctant effect of current fuel scarcity and currency swap across the nation as excruciating and unbearable for the entire citizens of Nigeria at home.

“The elders are watching the continued development with concern and expect government to be more proactive in speedily resolving those serious issues in the interest of the Nigerian populace and not to, in any way, mar the fast approaching General election”

It, however, expressed worry about the ethnic colouration being introduced into presidential electioneering.
