Catholic Women Organization Abuja Archdiocese (CWOAA) has been advised to go collect their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) and ensure they cast their votes on election day rather than disenfranchised themselves by sitting at home.
President of CWOAA Mrs. Ebele Lilian Okoye, made the call in Abuja during its reunion programme held on the theme, “The woman (Catholic) heart of the family”.
Reunion is an annual meeting point of catholic women organization in Abuja archdiocese every November to thank and celebrate God’s mercies and compassion in the lives of members.
She stressed that it was important for women to participate in choosing who their leader will be and not ignore this responsibility as they used in past elections, noting also their roles as mothers not only to their immediate families but to the religious and nation in general.
“Women should be mothers to everybody to around them including the Bishops, priests, all religious and the nation at large. Every mother must make sure that God is highly enthroned in her family. The family that prays together, eats together and stays together, lives in peace and unity,” she said.
“Let me also call on us all to go collect our PVC and ensure you vote on election day. Don’t seat at home on election day but make sure your vote and guard your vote to be counted before you leave, ” she stressed.
Similarly, the immediate past president of CWAA and current national provost for CWON Mary Nkiruka Imazue,
advised Catholic women to endeavor to vote candidates including women with capacity and capabilities not party.
She noted that Nigeria is currently experiencing corruption, insurgency, kidnapping, stressing that voting the right choice is women’s responsibility and they should take that seriously.
“The percentage of women in leadership is low. Women capable of leading should come out and we will vote for women and the government should consider appointing women so that together we will collaborate with men to make the country better, ” she said.
In her remarks, President our Lady of perpetual help Parish Gwarinpa/Karmo deanary Coordinator Dr. Juliet Mmuoneme, urged all women candidates to be more visible so that women can vote for them, stressing that it is the right time for women to come out and vote for a new Nigeria.
“Don’t seat at home and assume that your votes will not count. Atleast we should have 60/40 leadership representation in the next dispensation, ” she said.
