The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun state has vowed to take over the governance of the state, saying that it will create a ‘model’ Ogun state if elected in 2023.
Speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, the governorship candidate of the party, Tony Ojeshina, vowed to make the state financially independent of the monthly federal allocation by driving the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) aggressively.
In his manifesto tagged “Creating a model state – 2023”, Ojeshina said his focus would be on industrial, energy, infrastructure and agricultural revolutions, all geared towards making Ogun state a self-sustaining economy.
“Ogun state, like all other states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria is totally dependent on monthly federal allocation for her sustenance.
“The allocation from the federal government is, in turn, totally dependent on oil production proceeds. This has made the federal government and Ogun state government vulnerable to any and all irregularities in oil proceeds.
“Our administration is determined to transform Ogun state from its dependency on federal oil proceeds into one that is self-sustaining. To achieve this, we shall focus on the industrial revolution”, he said.
He lamented the rising cases of vote- buying from the off-season elections, while tasking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to beef up its machineries to nip such in the bud in the 2023 general elections.
