2023: Tinubu’s choice of Shettima strategic, not religious – Dambazau

The former Chief of Army Staff and former Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (Rtd), has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of former Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima as Vice Presidential candidate as apt.

Dambazau stated this Tuesday at the ongoing 2021 Blueprint Annual Public Lecture And Impact Series holding at International Conference Center (ICC) Abuja.

The former minister of interior said Tinubu’s choice is a strategy to win and not about religion.

He said if it were about religion, Tinubu would have picked his Vice Presidential candidate from the North West where 90% of the people are Muslims.

He recalled that the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), fired the first salvo when they said that only southern Christian should be elected the next president.

“The Muslim Rights Concern responded that only a Southern Muslim should be voted to become the next president, he states.

He continued ” the Division along religious lines as it relates to 2023 politics became intensified after the APC presidential candidate, pick another Muslim as his running mate. Though religion was not a factor in the choice. If it were, he could have picked from the Northwest, where about 90% of the population is Muslim.

” When strategizing for winning elections, all factors are put on the table for consideration. I believe that the choice of Kashim Shettima could not be by chance.”
