2023: Why Lawal Adamu should vie for governor

As the 2023 general election draws closer, a searchlight has been beamed to spot or identify a credible candidate who will bring the much needed development projects to Kaduna state.

The good people of Kaduna state have never had it so bad than during the present administration of governor Nasiru El-Rufai. Under his watch, many civil servants and business people have been sent to their early graves as the result of anti-people policies being implemented by him. The APC led government in the state, which came to power under the slogan of change mantra, has continued to punish or pauperise people with its harsh policies.

The recent hike in tuition fees points one among many unpleasant government’s policies in the state. It is in view of these inhumane policies, coupled with lack of development that make Kaduna people to start looking desperately for an alternative candidate who has a milk of kindness to lead them in 2023. It is either Kaduna people take destiny into their hands, elect good a governor in 2023 election or remain perpetually in the bondage of capitalist hawks who lack human feeling and will maintain the status quo.

While the choice of who will lead them rest on them, there is no doubt, Kaduna people are increasingly becoming more educated and politically conscious. In the last bye-election conducted by the Independent National Electorate Commission (INEC) in Sabon Gari local government, the ruling party lost the election to the opposition PDP. The outcome of the election which favoured PDP and surprised the ruling party has indicated that PDP should brace up for more victory in the 2023 general election.

However, unless the opposition PDP gets it right and fields a credible candidate, winning the state will be an arduous task. Though, many candidates will spring up for the party’s ticket, attention should be given to a candidate with exceptional leadership qualities who can be accepted by all and sundry. The candidate should be a person of timber and caliber, possess good character and above all a philanthropist who must have touched the lives of the common man in many ways.

Among those who may throw their hat in the ring for the race to Sir Kashim House under the PDP is Lawal Adamu Usman (Mr LA). Although, he has not made it public that he will contest the 2023 gubernatorial election, pressure has been mounted on him to answer the call of over 20 youths organizations which find him suitable for the coveted seat. Since he lost the senatorial election in 2019 fiercely contested between him and Uba Sani, Lawal Adamu Usman has continued to reach people through his “LA CARES FOUNDATION”.

Within the period under review, over 42000 vulnerable women and youths were trained and economically empowered in Kaduna central. Besides, in 2020 when coronavirus hit hardest, Lawal Adamu donated food items worth N20 million to the vulnerable households who suffered silently during the lockdown period.

Recently, he was in the news for awarding N30 million scholarship to Kaduna state students to cushion the effects of tuition fees increase by the Kaduna state government. Lawal promised to increase the scholarship to N50 million next year.

This is an inspirational gesture! In recognition of his service to humanity, Lawal Adamu Usman received an award from Master of International affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD), ABU, Zaria, as “icon of exemplary leadership and community development”.

The award did not come to many of us as a surprise. Lawal Adamu Usman, who read public administration and holds a master’s degree in international relations and diplomacy from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, is a beacon of hope.

Through his philanthropy, he has uplifted thousands of poor masses to the admiration of the general public. Lawal Adamu Usman should consult widely and answer the clarion call from his numerous supporters who see great leadership qualities in him. Like many of his supporters, I passionately appeal to Mr LA to join the race to Sir Kashim House come 2023.
