2,169 corps members take oath of service in Osun

Osun state, on Friday, admitted 2169 members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, deployed to the state for the 2019 Batch ‘A’ service year, on oath.


The corps members were admitted on oath by Justice Jide Falola, who represented the state Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Adepele-Ojo.


Speaking at the swearing-in and opening ceremony in Ede, Osun state, the state Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, promised that his administration will continue to ensure adequate living of the corps members.


The Governor, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Dr. Charles Akinola, noted that he has been paying the monthly allowances of the corps members regularly since inception of his administration, promising that his government would strive to make the state conducive for the corps members.


“Since assuming office on the 27 November, 2018, I have ensured the prompt payment of your allowances. Be rest assured therefore, that my government will continue to support the scheme by prioritising your welfare and creating a conducive and enabling environment for you in the state.


The state Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, disclosed that the corps members include 1,147 males and 1,022 females.


He charged the corps members to harness the strength of both the in-camp and post-camp components of the scheme, warning them not to involve in political activities during their service years.


“Be rest assured that concerted efforts have been made to ensure this once-in-a-lifetime experience is a memorable one for you all. We have tried our best in making provisions that would guarantee an acceptable level of comfort and security for all course participants.


In his speech, the Coordinating Director for Empowerment and Youth Engagement, Dr. Olatunbosun Awoyemi, urged the corps members to emulate the active role of their predecessors in the 2018 gubernatorial election in Osun state and the 2019 general elections.


“Your predecessors made the scheme and the nation proud by participating in the peaceful conduct of the gubernatorial election in the state of Osun in 2018 and as well as the general elections in 2019. Their conduct during the exercise is indeed worthy of note.


“I assure you that your security and welfare is our ultimate concern and that has been taken care of, but we need to work together to make this come through.
