22 inmates get pardon in Kogi

Kogi state Governor, Capt Idris Wada, has granted pardon to 22 inmates from the state serving in various prisons across the country.
In a state broadcast yesterday in Lokoja , Wada said  by virtue  of the power conferred on him by Section 2 of the Constitution, He had the power to grant mercy to convicts after due consultation with the state Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

He said the Council acting in consonant with the provision of Kogi state Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy Law 1995 under took visits to various prisons in the country, and that condemned convicts and other categories of convicts of Kogi state extraction were serving various terms.
He said: “I, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada, Governor of Kogi state, under and by virtue of the powers conferred on me by Section 212 (1) (a), (b), (c) and (d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) do hereby on this January 28, 2014, render and pronounce, in the exercise of my powers of the Prerogative of Mercy.”

Wada, who called on the beneficiaries to abstain from any form of crime, appealed to communities to absorb them with love to enable them to settle down and live a life devoid of suspicion.
