Suspected cultist sent to prison in Osun

A 22-year-old man, Adeyeye Afeez, was on Wednesday, remanded in Ilesa prison by an Osun state Magistrate Court, sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, for alleged fraternity with unlawful society.

The accused was alleged to be a member of ‘Eye fraternity’, an offence, the police said is a criminal offence.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Idoko John, alleged that the accused committed the purported crime on October 19, 2018 at 5.30am in Osogbo.

He told the court that the accused allegedly conspired with others at large to commit the offence contrary to and punishable under sections 516 and 64(A)(B) of the criminal code Cap 34, Vol II, laws of Osun state, 2002.

The accused, who had earlier pleaded not guilty, told the court that he was forced to join the group in Lagos.

His Counsel, Mr Adegbola Dare, urged the court to grant him bail, promising that he would stand his trial.

But, Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that the accused be remanded in Ilesa prison and adjourned till May 8, 2019, for ruling on bail application.
