A three months old baby and the mother Thursday narrowly escaped death in a lone accident that took place at Eliasa Abaomege, Onicha local government area of Ebonyi state.
They baby and the mother were in a mass transit with plate number UWN109ZT coming from Port Harcourt, River state to Abakaliki when it had an accident that claimed three lives at instant.
The bus according to an eyewitness account was said to have been on high speed when the front tire busted and vied off the road were huge and glued to a melina tree.
The vehicle which is an 18 seater bus also had about four persons critically injured and are being treated in the hospital.
The eyewitness Chief Joseph Okoro said, “I was in deep sleep when I had a loud noise which woke me up. Before I could notice it, dust was everywhere and I ran outside and saw vehicles parking by roads sides to rescue the victims.
“It was the truck working for the state government that used its towing rope to immediately tow the bus, separating it from the tree it got glued to, the bus hugged the melina tree when it skidded off the road and crashed.
“After the bus was separated from the tree, three persons including the driver were seen dead, they died instantly. It was one of the front tyres of the bus that busted which caused the accident. The bus was returning to Abakaliki from Port-Harcourt.
“A child of about 3 or 4 months was in the vehicle and nothing happen to him and the mother”
Three persons died, the other people were rushed to hospital and worked by themselves”.
Another source noted that an elderly man in the vehicle who was soaked with blood said he told the driver to reduce his speed but he ignored him before the tire busted and this happened”.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of the State, Mrs Loveth Oda explained that the bus skidded off the Highway and plunged on a tree.
She noted that preliminary investigations indicated that the tire of the bus bursted before the incident occurred.
She noted that the deceased had been kj deposited in a mortuary while the injured were receiving treatment at the hospital.
