3 feared killed as deputy gov, commissioner’s supporters clash

At least five suspected thugs were killed and 15 others sustained serious injuries, on Monday afternoon in Daudawa town in Faskari local government area of Katsina state following an attack on the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Adamu Funtua, at the closing ceremony of the state’s Agricultural Show.

Blueprint gathered that trouble started before the end of the ceremony when the suspected thugs alleged to be supporters of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, began to shout ba mu yi.
An eyewitness also told our correspondent that the thugs, carrying dangerous weapon, charged towards the commissioner and his supporters which resulted in pandemonium where a lot of people were injured.
The source added that the commissioner was shielded from the attack by his supporters where more than 25 cars, including that of the commissioner, were smashed.

The source said the injured were taken to Funtua General Hospital for treatment where three persons later died.
Another source said about five cars in the convoy of the deputy governor were smashed during the opening ceremony of the Show in Daudawa village on Saturday and that the governor was aware of the incident.
When contacted, the Katsina state police spokesman, Aminu Abubakar Saddiq, only sent a text message to our reporter, saying that “in a meeting pls, text me,” but there was no reply after sending him a text on the situation.
