A three-storey building under construction located at Ifite Awka, near Nnamdi Azikiwe University gate, Awka South LGA, Anambra state has collapsed.
Although no life was lost,Blueprint reports that the response team of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has condoned the site and equally charged workers in an adjoining building with cracks to suspend work pending when assessments on the building plans would be completed.
The Managing Director of ACTDA, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa, said the agency on the preliminary stage of the building, issued warning notice to the developer to quit action but was ignored.
Okwuosa, while urging developers to stop engaging services of unqualified engineers, said the state government would take over the property including the land as stated in extant laws of the land.He also warned against ‘cutting corners’ or building without authorisation from relevant government agency.
Attempts to hear from the owner of the building or contractor proved abortive as none of people met at the site could comment.
