3 students cart home N12.5m in InterswitchSPAK STEM competition 

Three students who emerged top winners have received N12. 5 million in scholarship with Orevaoghene Whiskey, 16, of Top Faith International School in Akwa, Ibom state capital, becoming the first female to win the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition after she was crowned the best in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in Nigeria at the final of the fourth edition of the competition. 

The competition, a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of Africa’s leading integrated payments and digital commerce company, Interswitch doled out the grand prize of N7.5 million to Orevaoghene in scholarship, among other exciting prizes. 

Coming in  second and third-place were Adesayo Elumaro of the Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State, and Precious Akinyemi of Rhema Chapel International School, Oyo State, who won N4 million and N1 million scholarships respectively.

Speaking on the essence of the initiative, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Interswitch, Oremeyi Akah, emphasized on the need for more young Africans to tow the STEM path, thereby underscoring the goal of the InterswitchSPAK National Science competition.

Akah said “Research by the Africa Development Bank (AfDB)  reveals that less than 25% of African higher education students pursue STEM-related career fields.”
