300 killed by cattle rustlers in Zamfara in 2 years – Yari

Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari said the state has lost over 300 innocent lives to incessant attacks by notorious cattle rustlers between 2013 and 2015.
Yari made the disclosure while delivering a keynote address at the formal commissioning of some completed projects at 207 Quick Response Airforce Base, Gusau, the state capital yesterday.
The governor said the establishment of the Air force base by the federal government in the state will go a long way in assisting his administration’s determination to combat security challenges facing Zamfara state due to the activities of cattle rustling and armed banditry.
He praised the federal government for the concern given to the state in the area of protection of lives and properties of innocent citizens, stressing that the effort would be reciprocated by his administration.
In his remarks, the Chief of Air staff Nigerian, Air Marshal Saddiq Baba Abubakar, said the projects commissioned included 3 blocks of 30 rooms, headquarters office, among others.
According to him, “the 207 quick response units will serve as Air force base to keep surveillance in the area and neighboring Niger Republic border on daily basis in order to ameliorate the security challenges particularly posed by cattle rustling and other armed banditry.
Also speaking, the Minister of Defence, Mansur Muhammad Dan Ali, said the federal government would not hesitate to ensure the safety of lives and properties of all Nigerians, saying adequate steps had been put in place to fight insecurity across the nation for the betterment of Nigerians.
