3rd Rabiu Adeola U-12 Scrabble Championships gets underway

 

The third edition of Rabiu Adeola Memorial Schools Scrabble Championships will hold on Wednesday, (today) May 16 at prestigious Lagos Country Club, GRA Ikeja.
Founder and sponsor of the annual competition, Mr Bimbo Adeola, fondly called ‘Top Striker,’ said this year’s edition of the competition, which is memory of his late father, will have over 250 students competing for prizes and more hidden talents in the sport will be brought to the fore.
The overall champion smiles home with a trophy, medal, certificate and gift items while the first and second runners up will also win medals, certificates and gift items. All the participating kids will also go home with certificates and juicy gift items.
The maiden edition in 2016 was won by Okiki Fowobaje, as he emerged overall winner of the contest among 45 kids from 11 schools from different parts of Lagos.
Fowobaje was too good for the rest of the children as he smiled home with a giant trophy and other mouth-watering prizes.
The second and third prizes went to Daniel Lawal and Pese Alo respectively.
The second edition of the competition in 2017 saw Esom Kemakolam emerging tops while the duo of Angela Osaigbovo and Ekhagbai Gerald were second and third.
Adeola disclosed further that this year’s edition will have competing students from Chrisland Schools, Grange School, Green Springs, Redeemers International Schools, Corona Schools, Christ College, Carol Schools, Supreme Educational Centre, Dansol School, Mind Builders Schools, Vivian Fowler Memorial, Mayflower Schools, Ikenne, Coastland School, Hallmark School, Ifako International School, Berkley Science Magnet School, St. Gregory’s College and a host of other schools.
Adeola, who is an ace sports broadcaster and managing director of 27 July Limited, said the number of participants attests to the growing influence of the competition.
He further enthused that this year’s edition will draw more esteemed personalities and top officials of Nigeria Scrabble Federation, which would add colour to the championships.
