4 states compete for NYG slots in Kaduna

Four states in the North west are competing in Kaduna to secure slots for participation in the Under-15 National Youth Games (NYG).

The zonal elimination is taking place at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium with athletes from Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Sokoto states.

The NYG is scheduled to hold from Sept. 7-17, 2019 in Ilorin.

Ogunleye Kayode, zonal administrative officer, said three states in the zone – Zamfara, Kebbi and Katsina – did not show up for the team events elimination as at the end of the screening exercise.

He said that Kaduna State fielded athletes for Hockey (Male and Female), Indoor Volleyball (Male and Female), Beach Volleyball (Male and Female) Cricket (Male) Handball (Male and Female) and Football (Male and Female).

Kano state is competing in Basketball (Male and Female) Handball (Male and Female) Football (Male) Volleyball (Male and Female) and Rugby (Male).

Jigawa State is participating in Basketball (Male) and Cricket (Female).

Sokoto is competing in Football (Male) Basketball (Male) Beach Volleyball (Male and Female) Handball (Male) and Volleyball (Male).

Speaking on the screening, the North West Zonal Coordinator, Mr Olusola Luke, said that it was carried out without fear or favour.

He warned that disciplinary action will be taken against any state who fielded disqualified athletes.(NAN)
