49 Ogun inmates register for 2019 NECO

No few than 49 inmates in the Nigeria Correctional Service (NSC) in Ogun state have registered for the 2019 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination of the National Examination Council (NECO).

The Controller, NCS Ogun state command, Abolade Benson, disclosed this Sunday while speaking at the pulling out ceremony of the officer in charge of Ijebu-Ode custodial centre, Olufemi Adebayo.

According to Benson, the examination fees of the inmates had been paid for by some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and families of the inmates.

He added that 32 inmates, who sat for the 2018 NECO had been duly registered on scholarship programme at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

Benson also disclosed that 90 inmates had graduated from Yewa Central College of Education while 42 others were still studying at the institution.

In his address, the former officer in charge of Ijebu-Ode custodial centre, Olufemi Adebayo, expressed gratitude to the officers in the Service.

He advised the NCS officers to be focused, compassionate, committed and loyal while discharging their official duties.  

Adebayo, who retired with the rank of Deputy Controller of Prisons, was pulled out  from the Ijebu-Ode custodial centre in a motorcade in company of his wife and some officers of the NCS.

Adebayo was enlisted at the Nigerian Prisons Service now known as Nigerian  Correctional Service on December 18, 1990 as Senior Inspector of Prisons and later got  converted to Assistant Superintendent of Prison II (ASP II) in 1992.

He was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Prisons 1 in 1994, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons in 1997, Superintendent of Prisons in 2000, Chief Superintendent of Prisons in 2003, Assistant Controller of Prisons in 2007 and Deputy Controller of Prisons in 2013.

He was deployed to the United Nations mission in Liberia as correction mentor in Sanniquelle Central Prison in Liberia between January 2013 and August 2014. After his return from the United Nations assignment, he was appointed as the head of agric and operations at the Federal Capital Territory Command till he was posted to Ijebu-Ode custodial centre on February 12, 2018 as officer in charge of the centre.
