500 parents and teachers of El Amin International School in Minna have received free medical services and drugs for the treatment of various ailments ranging from cervical cancer, high blood pressure and diabetics.
The beneficiaries were diagnosed and treated on Saturday at the school in a free medical outreach organised by the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) of the school.
Blueprint learnt that over eight medical doctors, a number of nurses, pharmacists and health technologist including diagnostic experts were deployed for the programme.
Speaking in an interview, the PTA Chairman of the school, Mohammed Aliyu, said the exercise was in conjunction with the management of the school to ensure that parents and teachers were in good health.
“This programme is intended to afford parents and teachers the opportunity for them to know their health status. We have not less than five doctors and quite a number of other health professionals including professional nurses who are also our members as parents,” he said.
He said the doctors were checking out for malaria, blood pressure, diabetics and cancer and other ailments that may not show any symptom but dangerous if not properly managed.
He said most parents “do not have time for their health which is affecting their performance,” adding that “many parents have actually taken advantage of the programme to know their health status.”
Also speaking, the Head Teacher of the school, Alhaji Yakubu Aliyu, said the school management was in partnership with the PTA to ensure that parents and teachers “know their health statuses and commence free medication.”
