53,000 graduates begin NYSC orientation course

About 53,000 Nigerian youths who have completed their higher education in the country and abroad and met the requirements for the national service began a 21-day orientation exercise yesterday across the federation except in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states due to security reasons.
About 1,230 of the batch A youth corps member deployed to Kaduna state by the National Youth Service Commission underwent swearing-in ceremony yesterday at the orientation camp along Abuja – Kaduna road, Kaduna.

Declaring the orientation course open, Kaduna state Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero reiterated the commitment of his administaration on corps welfare and security, saying the state had made adequate preparion to host what he referred to as representation of Nigeria.
Governor Yero appealead to corps members to love, care and respect others religion and ethnicity and do everything possible to put the love of the country at heart in other to further consolidate the relative peace the state is currently enjoying.

“As the chief security officer in Kaduna state, I want to assure you that your security and general welfare is of utmost priority to our administration. Desist from societal vices and other anti-social behaviours that may deter the development of your potentials,” stressed the Governor.

In an address, the state’s Chairman of NYSC and Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Bashir Zubairu Usman, who was represented by Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Balarabe Musa, uraged corps members to see the exercise as challenging and interesting, adding that it would help them to reflect on individual and collective responsibilities towards contributing their quota to national development.

Earlier, the state Coordinator, Mrs Victoria Ango, has on behalf of the scheme thanked the state governor, and other stakeholders for their immense contributions to the members of NYSC in the state.

Highlight of the event was administration of oath of national service on corps members by the representative of Chief Judge of Kaduna, Justice David Wyom.
