56,704 teachers graduate from NTI

  Zazzau Emir, 2 others receive Fellowship Awards

 

National teachers Institute at the weekend graduated about 56,704 teachers who have completed their studies at the centre.
The grandaunts were from 2008 and 2013 academic session.

Addressing the grandaunts at the 3rd Convocation ceremony of the institutes held in Kaduna, NTI Director General, Associate Professor Ladan Aminu Sharehu, who congratulated the students, gave the breakdown of the 146 Advance Diploma education, 37,285 Post Graduate Diploma Education PGDE and 19,300 for National Certificate of Education NCE.
According to him, the institute has done a lot in the area of training and retraining of teachers in the country.
The Director General also listed some of his achievements in office since his assumption of in 2009 to include construction of Science and Mathematics centre within the institute and establishment of ICT centre at NTI centre located in 25 states of the federation.

Others include computers used at the centre which is worth N1billion, construction of centre of English and strengthening the institute’s library among others.
The management of the institute also used the opportunity to confer fellowship awards of excellence on Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, Prof. Uduogie Micheal Obi Ivowi, and National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for their contribution to the development of education in the country.

In her remarks, Minister of State for Education Prof. Viola Onwuliri, said Federal Government would soon develop a policy framework to develop Open Distance Learning (ODL) system of education in the country.
According to her, the challenges students encountered while trying to gain admission into universities across the country made President Jonathan to approve the establishment of more Federal University in the country.
“When a teacher performs well it means students will also do well. We urged teachers to shun all negative vices that always send education backward such as rape, sexual harassment, child abuse, child marriage among others,” she said.
She said some of these vices are sometimes committed by adults and teachers and is affecting education in the country.
The minister further seeks support from political leaders to help develop educational sector of the country.
