58 deaths ‘recorded from auto crashes in Kogi’

Fifty-eight deaths have been recorded from different  auto crashes that occurred  across Kogi state in the month of January 2014.
Briefing newsmen yesterday in Lokoja on the activities of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) , the state Sector Commander , Mr Olakunle Matajo  said the deaths were recorded from the 19 auto crashes that occurred  across the state in January 2014.
He further disclosed that 180 passengers were involved in the accidents,   58 died, 79 sustained injuries, while 43 escaped unhurt saying that most of the accidents were fatal which was responsible for the high figure  compare to the previous month.
The sector commander  who attributed the mishaps  to over speeding and dangerous overtaken  as well as  traffic violation, charged motorists to  change their attitude road usage  so that accident can be reduced to the barest minimum, pointing out that continuous loss of lives due to road accident is not good for the country.
Matajo therefore warned motorists and other road users to always obey traffic rules, saying that most of the accidents were as a result of impatience and disobedience to traffic rules and regulations, warning drivers to desist from night journey to minimise accidents.
