58 years after, ABUTH gets post-nursing accreditation

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has accredited four post basic nursing programme of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital’s Schools of Post Basic Nursing, after 58 years of existence.
Blueprint reports that the programmes accredited include Anaesthesia, Midwifery, Opthalmic and Paediatric, which take effect from this year.
The school is now recognised and licensed to produce trained Nurses certified and licensed to practice nursing, using the best global practices.
Speaking at a four- week refresher course jointly organised by the Alumni of the school yesterday, the Registrar of the Council, Alhaji Faruk Lawal Wurno, said the school which was established way back in 1960 started with only 12 students was one of the oldest among its peers in the country, has been battling with accreditation issue.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Lawal Khalid, who was represented by the chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Professor Adamu Ahmed, pledged to support the school to attain the desired height.
