59th Independence: Fintiri pardons 18 prisoners in Adamawa

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has ordered for the released of 18 prisoners serving various jail terms in different prisons across the state.

This gesture by the governor is in commemoration of the 59th Independence Day.

In a press statement made available to journalists in yola Tuesday, and signed by the director general  media and communications to the governor, Mr. Solomon Kumanga said that the gesture is in pursuant to the governors power of prerogative of mercy under section 22(i) (d)  of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Parts of the statement reads, “In commemoration of the Nigeria’s fifty-Ninth independent anniversary, His excellency Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri  has signed an executive order approving the released of eighteen (18) prisoners, serving various jail terms in five(5) different correctional facilities across Adamawa state.”

He added that documents giving effect to the executive order have already been dispatched to the correctional facilities which includes Numan, yola, Ganye, Jada and loneliness.
