5th NYG: Team Kaduna win hockey gold, maintain 100% record

Team Kaduna increased their medal haul to three gold medals on Saturday at the National Youth Games (NYG), as the male hockey team retained their gold medal with 100 percent performance in the round robin event.

The Kaduna side won all their six matches in the league format beating Nasarawa state 6-1, Niger state 4-0, Ekiti state 5-0, Delta state 2-0, Bauchi state 3-1. Oyo state also lost 4-1, while they also defeated Abia state to maintain 100%.

The Kaduna state female hockey side were not that lucky as they won only two of their matches, drawing three and losing two.

The Team Kaduna hockey coach, Abdullahi Baba Ndana, commended the male team for their victorious performance, while lamenting that it was a hard sell getting female players for the team hence their tepid performance.

Meanwhile, the Team Kaduna male volleyball side defeated their Akwa Ibom counterparts 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-19) to berth in the male volleyball final against Team Lagos boys.

The Team Kaduna volleyball girls however lost out after losing the third place match to Team Delta girls.

The Kaduna girls had earlier lost the semi final tie to Team Lagos 3-2 despite racing to a 2-0 lead in the match.
