6 women, 70 others in NDLEA net over 7034.80kg illicit drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Anambra state command, said it has arrested 76 Indian hemp suspects, including six women in the first quarter of the year.
The Commander of the Agency, Mr Mohammed Idris, who disclosed this in an interview, added that a total of 7034.80 illicit drugs were equally seized from the suspects.


Others confiscated were psychotropic substances such as methamphetamine weighing 0.0584kg and tramadol tablets weighing 17.335kg.
“On assumption of office in November last year, I moved into action and confiscated 295.3624kg of cannabis sativa, 0.0740 kg of cocaine and 0.0102kg of heroin. 76 suspects were arrested within the period under review, out of which 70 were males while 6 were females.


“We secured 8 convictions, filed a total of 20 fresh cases and arraigned 6 suspects during the period. We had 135 cases pending at the Federal High Court, Awka as well as one case at Court of Appeal,” he further revealed, adding that the agency had consistently engaged drug users in counseling and rehabilitation.


He warned illicit drug dealers to either desist from the act or stay clear Anambra, else they face the wrath of law.
