Over 6,000 card-carrying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Toungo local government area of Adamawa state who defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will be formally presented to the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar at a mega rally organised to celebrate Atiku’s emergence as PDP presidential candidate.
The rally is billed for August 15, 2022 in Yola, Adamawa state capital.
Adamawa PDP state chairman, A. T. Shehu, weekend in Toungo local government stated this while receiving 1,614 out of the defectors who defected to PDP and surrendered their APC membership card to mark their official defection.
“Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is the son of the chiefdom, has asked the party to make sure that all of you who left the party from Toungo are brought to his mega rally in Yola on 15th August to celebrate his emergence as PDP flag bearer because he would like to shake hands with you,” Shehu said.
Shehu further stated that the standard protocol is for the party to received the defectors at the ward level and that is what they have done in Toungo before their presentation to the party flag-bearer at an elaborate occasion in Yola.
He thanked them for their courage for abandoning the party that subjected them and other Nigerians to untold hardship.
Leaders of the defectors who spoke at the event, Mustapha Albashir, Alhaji Gana and Mallam Yahaya Abubakar, attributed their decision to leadership failure of President Buhari, the worsening insecurity, poverty and the economic difficulties to which the APC led administration has subjected Nigerians in the last seven years.
They further stated that since they worked with other Nigerians to bring APC to power in 2015, the nation continued to retrogress and they are convinced that PDP holds a promising future for Nigeria.
They commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his visionary leadership and dividends of democracy he brought to the state.
They commended what he did for Toungo local government which was connected to national grid after over 30 years of being in darkness among many other dividends of democracy.
