7 motor cycles burnt, cars smashed in Niger community 

Violence erupted Saturday in Jima community of Lavun local government area of Niger state during the presidential and National Assembly elections. 

It was learnt that many people from the community were injured during the violence which broke out over arguments by supporters of contestants. 

Jima is said to be a community near Dokko area where the polling unit of three other villages consisting of Edogi, Emiworo and Jumata is situated. 

A witness account said, “Argument between the villagers and supporters of different political parties led to crisis, while no fewer than seven motorcycles were burnt down, cars destroyed during the crisis”.

It was learnt that a police personnel was among those injured while INEC officials were safely taken away by some Samaritans in the community.

A resident who spoke in an interview described the incident as unfortunate and called for the state government’s intervention to forestall reoccurrence during the next state elections.

The Niger state Police command spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said he was yet to get official information about the incident.
