8 ‘cultists’ remanded for robbery

An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, remanded eight men in Ilesa Prisons for allegedly robbing people of their motorcycles, phones and other valuables at gun point.
The accused: Ogunosun Timieyin, 18; Adeleke Shina, 21; Olawopo Daramola, 20; Abidoye Semiu, 20; and Nkemko Steven, 23.
Others are Olayiwola Gbolahan, 29; Azeez Lawal, 30; and Owonifari Samson, 24.
The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade, who gave the ruling, said the men should be kept behind bars pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Police Prosecutor, Mustapha Tajudeen, told the court that the accused, who are suspected members of the Eiye cult, conspired and disturbed the public peace.
He alleged that the accused, armed with a gun, machetes and other dangerous weapons, had robbed people of their motorcycles, mobile phones and other valuables.
He said the offences contravened Sections 6 (b), (1), (2), (a) and (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation.
The offences also violated Sections 64(a), (b), 249(d) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The case was adjourned till March 15.
