8 killed, many injured as fuel tanker loses control, rams into cars, tricycles along Lokoja-Abuja highway

Eight persons on Monday morning lost their lives while seven sustained varying degree of injuries as a trailer loaded with petrol failed brake and rammed into vehicles.

The ghastly auto crash which occurred at Felele community along Lokoja -Abuja highway involved  four Tricycles, two motorcycles three cars and a bus.

An eye witness account who identified himself as Moses Johnson told Blueprint correspondent that the ghastly auto crash occurred around 8:45 am, adding that the trailer was coming from Lagos with petrol when it lost control as a result of brake failure which led to the killing of innocent citizens who left their houses in search of their daily bread.

Our correspondent who went to the scene of the accident saw the trailer burning in flame while the federal fire service drafted to Lokoja, Kogi state capital, for the governorship election were making concerted effort to quench the fire that has taken over one lane of the highway.

The federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were also on ground to evacuate  corpses and other victims of the accident that sustained injuries.

One of the FRSC officials who declined to mention his name while speaking to Blueprin , attributed the accident to brake failure suffered by the white colour petrol laden tanker with registration number JEG141XA DAF.

He confirmed that 17 people were involved in the accident.

He said the victims have been taken to Federal Medical Central and  Specialist hospital both in Lokoja by FRSC.
