9 escape death as bus plunges into river in Anambra



About nine persons were reportedly rescued on Tuesday night when a J5 bus with Reg No NH 148 ARL plunged into river along with it’s occupants along Ideani/Nnobi road, Idemili South local government area of Anambra state. According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Haruna Muhammed, the accident which occurred on at about 8pm was between a Petroleum Tanker MACK with Reg No. LEH 37 XA,  a Mercedez Benz lorry with reg XM 370 ENU, an L300 bus with Reg  No. XG 680 FGG and the J5 bus.


“Police patrol team led by DPO Nnobi Division visited  the scene,rescued  the victims and rushed them to moon and Fatima  hospitals Nnobi with the assistance of locals,” Haruna disclosed.


He said that no life lost but a total of nine victims involved were responding to treatment although one of them was critically injured and admitted at the intensive care unit of the Fatima hospital. 
He further announced that “The driver of the Mercedes Benz lorry one Mr James Eze, aged 30years of  No 6 ,Eze lane Okpoko  who was alleged  to be the main cause of the accident was arrested and case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.” 


The  PPRO said the Commissioner of Police, John Abang had visited scene of the accident.
